The Lugarno FC AAWC’s have finished a brilliant yet challenging season to win back to back premierships.

The team also finished the season as minor premiers so the premiership title was deserving.

For majority of games during the season the team could not field a full team for various reasons such as injuries and other commitments. Witnessing this team battle it out week in week out often with less than a full compliment of 11 players definitely helped build the team character and resolve.

The team was also unable to borrow players due to eligibility issues which meant many weeks playing games with just 8-9 players.

On grand final day they still did not have a full bench and a number of players went into the game carrying niggling injuries from previous weeks.

In a warm day for the grand final Lugarno faced competition runners up Arncliffe Aurora. The game was played end to end and both teams had their chances during the game with Lugarno shading Arncliffe Aurora in terms of clear scoring opportunities.

Just when the grand final seemed to be heading for extra time, Lugarno was able to sustain pressure at their opponents end which resulted in the awarding of a penalty kick with just two minutes of normal game time left.

With the penalty kick successfully converted the Lugarno FC fans started celebrating on the sidelines. But the game was not yet finished as an extraordinary 5 minutes of injury time was added.

The final whistle was eventually blown allowing the Lugarno team and fans to celebrate an exciting grand final victory.

Congratulations to coach Max and manager Sue and the players for a remarkable season.
